Arukah Band Bio:
Arukah is a four-piece Massachusetts-based original jamband that has quickly gained a loyal following in New England since starting in June of 2021.
A super group made up of musicians from various well-established bands, an Arukah show features top-level musicianship showcased in jaw-dropping solos, a multitude of grooves that keep the dance floor jumping, and unique songwriting approaches from each member, with harmony vocals and catchy hooks.
Guitarist Dennis Angelo has many dedicated fans of his energetic playing from his relentless touring with The New Motif and Entrain; bassist Brian O’Connell is widely known for his explosive bass style with Uncle Sammy and Dead Man’s Waltz; keyboardist Mark Munzer is a longtime member of the popular band The Knot, and along with drummer Brian Epstein are both part of Playing Dead, one of New England’s longest running and best known Grateful Dead tribute bands who have a large following and put on their own summer festival.
Arukah has a wide range of influences from across the musical spectrum, most notably from the styles of jamband, funk, classic rock, reggae, jazz fusion, prog rock, and pop.
DENNIS ANGELO - Guitar, Vocals
Dennis plays guitar solos that are volcanic and searching which he alternates with an amazing funk rhythmic feel. He is a prolific songwriter with a soulful and sweet vocal delivery. His enthusiastic embrace of the music scene has won him many fans. A founding member of The New Motif, he has also toured with Entrain. His influences include: John Scofield, Jerry Garcia, John Frusciante, and Trey Anastasio.
MARK MUNZER - Keyboards, Vocals
Mark is also the keyboardist and vocalist for both The Knot (formerly Slipknot) and Grateful Dead tribute band Playing Dead. With keyboard sounds from the classic to the futuristic, he solos with a deep appreciation of the masters, and arranges most of the band’s harmony vocals. Mark has shared the stage with Merl Saunders, Buddy Cage, Tom "TC" Constanten, Dark Star Orchestra, and Butch Trucks (Allman Brothers). His keyboard influences include: Chuck Leavell, Brent Mydland, Keith Godchaux, Steve Winwood, Bruce Hornsby, Dr. John, Elton John, and Art Neville.
BRIAN O'CONNELL - Bass, Vocals
Brian is widely known for his inventive and kinetic bass guitar playing with Uncle Sammy, Gordon Stone, Gary Backstrom, Dave Brunyak, and Dead Man’s Waltz. A lover of intense improvisational jams and performing fun and interesting music for true music lovers and fans, he has recorded with Mike Keneally and shared the stage with members of: moe., The Spin Doctors, Soulive, The Tubes, Disco Biscuits, Max Creek, and Tom “TC” Constanten of the Grateful Dead. His playing is influenced by: Jaco Pastorius, Tony Levin, Victor Wooten, Phil Lesh, and Mike Gordon.
BRIAN EPSTEIN - Drums, Vocals
Brian also plays in the Grateful Dead tribute band, Playing Dead, as well as Providence centered jam/electronica band, Electro Politics. His solid in the pocket grooves hold the band together during wild jams and keeps the dancers hopping all night. Brian has a wide range of musical taste that ranges from long winding improvisational jam bands to heavy progressive rock to jazz. His primary drumming inspirations include Jon Fishman, Stewart Copeland, Billy Kreutzmann, John Bonham, and Mike Greenfield.
